I am going to get a boat (probably 20ft inboard outboard, not even sure what kind it is, I'll explain) tomorrow...for FREE!
My wife and I have been looking at houses recently and I usually go and stop by a house we are interested in before getting our realtor to show us the inside. Well this house looked like it hadn't been lived in for a while and there was a boat sitting out front in the same condition.
I was interested in the house so asked the realtor about it...no dice there's already an offer in on it. Now from everything I've been able to piece together it seems this was a foreclosure...some one bought it 6months ago and is now selling it...so the boat was probably there before all this. I email the realtor selling the house and ask if the sellers are doing anything with that boat.
Got an email back today saying I can have the boat for free just call the seller before I go get it. So I called and asked about it...just like I figured it was a foreclosure and the boat was abandoned there and they just want it gone. So tomorrow I am going to go get it and hopefully restore it to life...it is a bit run down but would be a cool boat if I can get it going.
I'll post pics and more details tomorrow
Update: did not get the boat. I didn't really look all that close when I was looking at the house...the interior is shot...when I was there I had noticed it was registered 2 years ago so figured it would be in not terrible shape. I was wrong...amazing how quickly things deteriorate when not taken care of....welp was probably best for my wallet

eehhhhhhhhh. My opinion of this is going to rely heavily on what type of boat this is. Has trailer/motor? probably worth it. No trailer/motor? You better really like that damn boat, cause its gonna cost you.
fully open? cuddy cabin? full cabin?

yea it has both an engine and trailer...only reason I'm taking it is because it's free. If I can get the engine running I'll keep it...if not I scrap it make a few bucks and get a nice trailer out of it

wait, are you coastal or inland? free boats are pretty common near me, so I may be a bit jaded http://boston.craigslist.org/search/zip?que…
But yeah, the engine really is the kicker there. on the upside, most inboard/outboards are car/truck motors, so they tend to be cheaper/more manageable parts wise than high HP outboards ( a 250hp yamaha will run you somewhere north of 20k)

in Wisconsin...we have a lot of small lakes but I don't see many free boats that are in decent shape and have and engine (like i said if i can get the motor running I'll keep it, otherwise it would end up costing more than buying a running boat)...seems like a lot of those don't have an engine either

Some of the most expensive boats are the free ones. Some of the best boats I have are my friends' boats!
